The Horror Hotel Cinema : The Woman in Black (Original Broadcast 1989)

Welcome back to the Horror Hotel Cinema, folks!

I had a really sweet B-movie from the 50's picked out for this week's show, but after writing an article here on the upcoming WOMAN IN BLACK adaptation by Hammer Studios, I thought the time was right to take a look back at the original TV Movie which aired one chilly Christmas eve here in Britain, and scared the whole damn country half to death. For those of you who have seen the film, join us and relive one of the most genuinely chilling ghost stories ever told. For those of you who haven't seen the first film, or read the book; sit back, turn all the lights off and let yourself believe. Your in for a real treat.

I'm sorry that the film is in parts, but like I said in my article, its a very difficult film to find these days, (hopefully that will all change on the release of the Hammer version). In the immortal words of The Rolling Stones... 'You cant always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need'

A wise philosophy...

Remember, you can set the parts up in a play list to avoid any manual hassle, and make the experience a little smoother.

Now, let me set the scene....

Its Christmas Eve in the long cold winter of 1989, and the family is huddled together round the TV. The kids are set to burst waiting to open their presents, and Mum and Dad have drank a little too much sherry are making eyes at each other, and thinking about unwrapping each others presents. The atmosphere is warm, festive and loving, and then the music your about to hear flows from the TV, inspiring a creeping dread. The room goes cold. The lights go out, and the whole family forget about presents, material or flesh, as the film casts its potent spell over them. All over Britain, the comforts of Christmas eve and all her traditions are replaces with cold fear. All thoughts of faith, love and hope are lost in an all pervading sense of horror and despair. The kids are hypnotized, Mum's and Dad 's everywhere are horrified, and a classic is born that will be remembered and talked of amongst families for years...

So, with no further adieu, here is THE WOMAN IN BLACK.
